Parágrafo 255

They were asked: “Have ye forsaken the Qur’án?” “In our House”, he replied, “did the All-Merciful reveal it. We are the breezes of the All-Glorious amidst His creation. We are the streams that have branched out from the Most Great Ocean, through which God hath revived the earth, and through which He shall revive it again after it hath died. Through us His signs have been diffused, His proofs revealed, and His tokens disclosed. With us is the knowledge of His hidden meanings and His untold mysteries.”

Perguntaram-lhes: “Haveis esquecido o Alcorão?” “Foi na nossa Casa”, respondeu ele, “que o Todo-Misericordioso o revelou. Somos as brisas do Todo-Glorioso entre a Sua criação.  Somos os regatos que surgiram do Mais Grandioso Oceano, com os quais Deus revivifica a terra, e com os quais Ele revivificará novamente depois de ter morrido. Através de nós os Seus sinais são difundidos, as Suas provas reveladas, e os Seus símbolos são divulgados. Connosco está o conhecimento dos Seus significados ocultos e dos Seus mistérios não revelados.”

Parágrafo 254

“Have ye forbidden”, they were asked, “that which God hath made lawful, or allowed that which He hath forbidden?” “We were the first to follow the divine commandments”, he answered. “We are the root and origin of His Cause, the beginning of all good and its end. We are the sign of the Ancient of Days and the source of His remembrance amongst the nations.”

“Haveis proibido”, perguntaram-lhes, “aquilo que Deus tornou lícito, e permitido aquilo que Ele proibiu?” “Fomos os primeiros a seguir os mandamentos divinos”, respondeu ele. “Somos a raiz e a origem da Sua Causa, o princípio de todo o bem e o seu fim. Somos o sinal do Ancião dos Dias e a fonte da Sua lembrança entre as nações.”

Parágrafo 253

They were asked: “Are ye of the party of the Seceders?”[43] He replied: “Nay, by the Lord Almighty. We are but servants who have believed in God and in His verses. Through us the countenance of faith hath beamed with joy. Through us the sign of the All-Merciful hath shone forth. At the mention of our names the desert of Baṭḥá12 hath overflowed with water and the darkness separating earth and heaven hath been dispelled.”

Foi-lhe perguntado: “Sois da facção dos Secessionistas?” [43] Ele respondeu: “Não, pelo Senhor Omnipotente. Somos apenas servos que acreditaram em Deus e nos Seus versículos. Através de nós, o semblante da fé irradiou alegria. Através de nós, o sinal do Todo-Misericordioso resplandeceu. Com a menção dos nossos nomes, o deserto de Bathá (12) transbordou com água e as trevas que separavam a terra do céu foram dispersas.”

Parágrafo 252

O King! The lamps of equity have been extinguished, and the fire of tyranny hath so blazed on every side that My people have been led as captives from Zawrá’11 to Mosul, known as Ḥadbá’. This is not the first outrage that hath been suffered in the path of God. It behoveth every soul to consider and call to mind that which befell the kindred of the Prophet when the people took them captive and brought them unto Damascus, known as Fayḥá’. Amongst them was the prince of them that worship God, the mainstay of such as have drawn nigh unto Him, and the sanctuary of those who long for His presence—may the life of all else be a sacrifice unto him![42]

Ó Rei! As lâmpadas da equidade foram extintas, e o fogo da tirania incandesceu de tal maneira que o Meu povo foi levado como cativo de Zawrá [11] para Mosul, conhecida como Hadbá. Este não foi o primeiro ultraje sofrido no caminho de Deus. Incumbe a cada alma lembrar e considerar o que sucedeu aos familiares do Profeta quando o povo os capturou e levou para Damasco, conhecida como Fayahá. Entre eles estava o príncipe daqueles que adoram Deus, o sustentáculo dos que se aproximam d’Ele, e o santuário daqueles que anseiam pela Sua presença – que a vida de todos os outros seja um sacrifício a ele! [42]

Parágrafo 251

I implore Thee, O My Lord, by that most exalted Word which hath struck terror into the hearts of all who are in the heavens and on the earth, save only those who have taken fast hold of Thy Sure Handle, not to abandon Me amidst Thy creatures. Lift Me up, then, unto Thyself, cause Me to enter beneath the shadow of Thy mercy, and give Me to drink of the pure wine of Thy providence, that I may dwell within the tabernacle of Thy majesty and beneath the canopy of Thy favour. Potent art Thou to do what pleaseth Thee. Thou, verily, art the Help in Peril, the Self-Subsisting.

Imploro-Te, ó Meu Senhor, por aquela Palavra mais exaltada que semeou terror nos corações de todos os que estão nos céus e na terra, salvo apenas aqueles que se seguram firmemente ao teu Cabo Seguro, que não Me abandones entre as Tuas criaturas. Eleva-Me, então, a Ti, faz-Me entrar na sombra da Tua misericórdia, e dá-Me de beber do vinho puro da Tua providência, para que Eu possa morar no tabernáculo da Tua majestade e sob o pálio do Teu favor. Poderoso és Tu para fazer o que Te apraz. Tu, em verdade, és o Amparo no Perigo, o Que subsiste por Si próprio.

Parágrafo 250

Praise be unto Thee, O Lord My God! I ask Thee by Thy Name, through which Thou hast subdued all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth, to protect the lamp of Thy Cause within the globe of Thine omnipotence and Thy bountiful favour, lest it be exposed to the blasts of denial from those who remain heedless of the mysteries of Thy name, the Unconstrained. Increase, then, by the oil of Thy wisdom, the radiance of its light. Thou, verily, hast power over all the dwellers of Thine earth and of Thy heaven.

Louvores a Ti, ó Senhor Meu Deus! Peço-Te pelo Teu Nome, com o qual subjugaste todos os que estão nos céus e todos os que estão na terra, que protejas a lâmpada da Tua Causa na esfera da Tua omnipotência e do Teu favor magnânimo, para que não fiquem expostas às rajadas da negação daqueles que permanecem negligentes dos mistérios do Teu nome, o Irrestrito. Aumenta, pois, com o óleo da Tua sabedoria, o brilho da sua luz. Tu, em verdade, tens poder sobre todos os habitantes da Tua terra e do Teu céu.

 

Parágrafo 249

O would that thou wouldst permit Me, O Sháh, to send unto thee that which would cheer the eyes, and tranquillize the souls, and persuade every fair-minded person that with Him is the knowledge of the Book. Certain persons, incapable of answering the objections raised by their opponents, claim that the Torah and the Gospel have been corrupted, whereas in reality the references to such corruption pertain only to specific cases.[41] But for the repudiation of the foolish and the connivance of the divines, I would have uttered a discourse that would have thrilled and carried away the hearts unto a realm from the murmur of whose winds can be heard: “No God is there but He!” For the present, however, since the season is not ripe, the tongue of My utterance hath been stilled and the wine of exposition sealed up until such time as God, through the power of His might, shall please to unseal it. He, verily, is the Almighty, the Most Powerful.

Oxalá me permitisses, ó Xá, enviar-te o que te alegraria os olhos e tranquilizaria as almas, e persuadiria todas as pessoas justas de que Ele possui o conhecimento do Livro. Certas pessoas, incapazes de responder às objecções dos seus opositores, afirmam que a Torá e o Evangelho foram corrompidos, quando, na verdade, essa corrupção refere-se apenas a casos específicos. [41] Não fosse o repúdio dos insensatos e a conivência dos sacerdotes, Eu teria proferido um discurso que comoveria e arrebataria os corações para um domínio onde no murmúrio dos ventos se pode ouvir: “Não há outro Deus salvo Ele!” Por enquanto, porém, porque a temporada não está madura, a língua da Minha expressão tem estado sossegada e o vinho da exposição selado até ao momento em que Deus, através do poder da Sua força, terá o prazer de o abrir. Ele, em verdade, é o Omnipotente, o Mais Poderoso.
